I discovered SB Skin and its microcurrent treatment through an article about Emily Weiss‘s wedding preparation on Into the Gloss. I knew it might be a marketing hype. But since I was looking for some good facial spots in NYC anyway, I wanted to try it out! Apparently, everybody else in NYC saw the article and then it was impossible to book an time that works for me, till today.
I had my microcurrent facial this afternoon with Anna, a cheerful and very knowledgeable aesthetician at SB skin. And I have to say, my face is very firm, uplifted and glowing after the 50 mins treatment. Plus, the experience was much more relaxing than I thought it would be. Let me take you through the process and tell you everyting else you need to know while my memory is still fresh.
- Treatment: Microcurrent Facial
- Duration: 50 mins
- Price: $190+Tax+Tips
After I laid down, Anna explained to me about the microcurrent technology – a electrical current that stimulate the facial muscle, and therefore diminish lines and lift and countor the face. A pilate for your face!
Afterwards, she cleansed my face with a toner and put conductive gel primer with aloe vera on my face. Then comes the wands! A small and a large one, each with two metallic ends, that Anna deftly use to glide across my face and around my eyes to lift up my muscles. You may feel the buzz on your face or a little bit metallic taste in your mouth due to the electricity, but other than that, you can just lay back and enjoy the process. (I had a great chat with Anna during the treatment, which lead me to the realization that dairy is what causes my breakouts on my chin! I will keep you posted on my new dairy-free diet 🙂 )
Just when I thought the treatment was over, there was more! 10 minutes of blue LED light treatment to kill off any acne-causing bacterias, 10 minutes of red LED light to promote circulation, and a laser exfoliation! To finish off, Anna applied a serum&moisturizer along with some very relaxing messages. Post-facial, my face looked surprised without me being surprised.
My verdict? The microcurrent treatment at SB Skin worth every penny! Yet, you don’t necessarily need this anti-aging treatment regularly unless you have wrinkles or a big event coming up. After all, it’s a really expensive facial that most people cannot afford to do it every month (if you have the money then of course do it!) Personally, I would do one every half year, and maintain the result with Nuface at home. Even though I am in my early 20s, an ounce of prevention beats a pounds of cure!
